Here is some coverage of the Wilmington Guitar Show held 11/16/ and 11/17..yes Friday and Saturday instead of the usual Sat and Sun. They had some other event booked on Sun so the show was on Fri and I hear it had good turn out. I went on Sat and found it to be a nice but small show. I saw some new vendors there and that's always a good thing. Nice show..its by BEE 3 Vintage as well, and I hope it continues. Turn out was good, and I almost bought an amp there..more on that larer. So...here is the walk in...

AAs you walk in, there were a few vendors before the main hall. THis guy had some Django style guitars. I played these, but didnt really fall in love. I want one of these, but this maker did not feel like the real deal. They felt like some of the cheaper stuff comin out of Korea. They are about a grand or more. BTW..i LOVE some of the Korean stuff and play mostly Korean guitars these days.

This was an amazingly clean 175 from 1961. I swear it looked about 1 year old. No checking at all, and the gloss was still there. The person never played it. I think the price is high at $8,750, but it's nice. I had one of these from /63 and sold it for $500. Ill never get over that.

Here was a nice D 45 Martin. Its a newer one...just thought id include it here...I had a D 35 ..sold it for 600 in the 80s...still kickin my own ass on that one too.
This is a Fender deluxe of some kind. The vendor claimed it was owned by Greg Allman. I have no reason to doubt it, but would never pay 7k just because of that. I forgot the year on this, but it was old..non orig speakers...I didnt plug it in, but it looked cool
AnyAnyone know about these old ampegs? Im looking for an amp that had the same circuit as "the fountain of sound" used by Johnny Smith. Would that be a Mercury or Gemini? Or maybe this? Lemme know..cause i love that sound!

Here is an overview of the show...looks like my guitar room...well...almost..

I I almost got in trouble here...I plugged into a '73 (i know) Vibrolux...but although it was made in the 70s, it sounded amazing. I am now in the market for one...seems like the ones from the 60s and up to about 1974 were quality amps? Any Gurus out there? I will buy one..the one i played here was $1300. It had a good jazz tone, along with a fair amount of head room...the rock tone was VERY good and not fizzy. Here is my headroom solution...the Fender Dual Showman Reverb..the ones from 69 and 70 had the same circuit as the 69 twin...but without all the weight. So..even though you would have to make 2 trips to the car, you can use the showman head and speaker cab of your choice..even a JBL! Carrying these separately would not be as bad as a Twin Reverb...no Twin Hernia here. Im looking for a deal on the head and will report back when i try this...anyone out there do this yet? Id love to know if it really works!! UPDATE: I got a 68 Dual Showman Reverb with the 'dripedge' which denotesthe first year for these amps. I got a JBL K130 @ 4 ohms and it does work. Super clean sound and 3D bass on my 7 string. Now I just buy heads and combine them with homemade speaker cabs. 2 trips to the car, but may be worth it for some gigs.

Just a coupe of 60s super reverbs....I used to use 2 of these for practicing with my band..they were great amps and have a different sound than twins or other fenders that ive used.

Anyone with some pocket change? $35k will get you a vintage original...which by the looks of it, would rarely be in tune..but hey its VINTAGE!!

I saw this at the last show...I still didnt buy it.

ddHere are some Beatle basses....i sold a '65 for $450...just kick me already.

Ever see one of these Goyas? they come with the amp build in...I think the guy in Blondi used one of these...I dont know what they sound like..but the idea is cool...the way the jazz amps are getting smaller, maybe Unger could start putting amps in those 18 inchers!

These Rics go with the Hoffs.

THis THis is the Vibrolux I tried...anyone have one to unload? I like these.

Anyone need some parts? This guy was great about looking for obscure parts for me. He really took time with me, and didnt rip me off on price. I found some parts for my Kahyler trem from this guy...but i have no idea where i put them when i got home.

More parts...

Here is a nice PREWAR D 18. $35k. I didnt play it.. i guess i never play these old things..but im sure its nice.

You know this guy?

How about now? Ill give u a hint...rock and roll hoochi koo. or...the troggs..or Johnny Winter AND _______

Its Rick Derringer. I see him at many shows. He endorses Warrior Guitars. He also sells 'Fret Protectors" which are some plastic product that keeps the strings from mashing your frets when u have your guitar in the case. I dunno..i feel sad when I see this guy here. Its because I saw him with Johnny Winter in 1971 when they were in their prime. They both had a Twin Reverb pyramid (3 twins) and all night you couldnt tell who was better. These guys kicked it for their day...but...Well..at these shows Rick does the star spangled banner, and seems to really have a nice feel for playing. ...somehow its still weird though. I also used to love his version of Back in the USA with Edgar Winter..some really hot stuff for the time.

Ricomania...I know a lot of guys who would love to have a Ric, but cant play them due to the narrow necks. When might they get the message...you need a wide neck for a 12 string...and if they made one, a LOT of people would then buy it (including me)...so wake up rieki!!

This was a REALLY nice guitar! All maple and smooth rounded edges. Nothing else like it. It had a GREAT acoustic sound and was somewhat versitile. They are about $2500 or so...VERY nice and unique guitars. Wish he made a 7 String.

THis thing was MINT. Didnt even bother putting a price on it.....

Here is the Tokai booth.

Some Van Halen clones...didnt price them...but the new clones for for 25k ..for a copy of a guitar that Eddie put together for

$300

Really nice looking Fender Bassmans. $2200 or so...looked great, but didnt play them.

And thats our show for Wilmington De, 11/17/07. Nice show..no jazz boxes though..no custom makers, just old stuff really

..but I like going just to look, and I learned that the Viborlux is a fine sounding amp...so I got my 10 buck worth..its 10 miles

from my house.

What do you folks think? U like looking here at the shows? Any comment or things you would like to see? shoot me an email!! THANKS FOR LOOKING and feel free to buy something! See you at the next show...the AMP show in NYC!!!
